Good response to ‘5K Run’ in Warangal

The ‘5K Run’ organised under the aegis of district police here on Monday has received tremendous response from people.

The run was organised as part of the ‘Police Martyrs Commemoration Week’. It was flagged of by Collector G Kishan from district police headquarters. The run traversed through Ambedkar Centre, Nakkalagutta, Adalath, Collectorate and Circuit Guest House.

Rural and urban superintendents of police LKV Ranga Rao and A Venkateshwara Rao, municipal commissioner G Suvarna Panda Das, sportsmen and women, Public Gardens Walkers Association members, students and common public took part in the event.

In open category Shravan Kumar, Tirupathi and Prasad have won first, second and third places respectively in the run where more than 1500 persons participated. Similarly, in 35 years category Venkateshwarlu, Veera Reddy and Jagan, in women’s category Bharathi, Neha and Lavanya, in boys’ category Nikhil won the prizes.

Special prizes

Police officials Himavathi, Suresh Kumar, David Raju, Ravi Kumar and Madhu have won special prizes.

Addressing the gathering, collector Kishan has appealed the public to support the police personnel who were serving the society round the clock at the cost of their lives saving life and property.

Rural SP, Mr Ranga Rao said the huge response from the public towards the 5K Run reveals their affection for police personnel while the urban SP said it was because of the sacrifices of police peace and harmony prevailing in Warangal district.

Additional SPs M Yadaiah and John Wesley, armed reserve commandant Anwar Hussain, DSPs, Raji Reddy, Rajamahendra Naik, Prabhakar, Ramesh, Ramchander Rao, office bearers of urban and rural Police Officers Association and staff were present.

Later at blood donation camp at the police headquarters was launched by rural SP Mr Ranga Rao by donating his blood. About 260 persons donated their blood on the occasion. So far 3000 persons have donated blood across the district as part of the blood donation camps organised marking the martyrs’ week, he said.

In the evening, a candle light rally was taken out.
