Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a common problem in older pets but, with effective management, their quality of life can be maintained. To help vets and nurses better understand the options available to their patients, Royal Canin is hosting two webinars on the subject of renal care. Each webinar will cover a distinct topic – with the first focused on ‘Nursing care of the renal patient’ (8.30pm, Wednesday 19 November 2014) and the second exploring the ‘Nutritional management of feline chronic kidney disease’ (8.30pm, Wednesday 3 December 2014). During the first webinar, Nicola Ackerman RVN will explore how good nursing extends from the ward to a patient’s home and can make a huge difference to the quality of life for the pet and its owner. Her webinar will cover good nursing techniques for the care of the patient in the ward, laboratory analysis of urine and blood in order to stage renal disease, blood pressure monitoring and management regimes. Award winning speaker, Martha Cannon MRCVS will be delivering the second webinar on the ‘Nutritional management of feline chronic kidney disease – how do I keep them eating?’. This session will review the significant benefits that good nutritional management can bring but also focuses on practical, affordable ways to maintain appetite and encourage long-term acceptance of new diets. Ian Williams, Royal Canin’s Veterinary Support Manager, said “Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a common problem in older pets. The resulting symptoms can be distressing for both owner and patient alike. It is now well known that feeding a pet with CKD the right kind of therapeutic diet is increasingly important, and both Nicola and Martha will be explaining the significant benefits that good nutritional management can bring in their webinars.” Practice staff can register for the webinars for free by visiting: www.royalcanin.co.uk/renalwebinars. They are easy to join; all you need is a computer (with speakers) which is connected to the internet. CPD certificates will be made available online to those who attend the live sessions. The webinars follow the launch of Royal Canin’s new range of Renal diets. The new diets have been designed to provide a wide range of aromatic profiles and textures to ensure exceptional palatability and acceptance by even the most discerning patient. The new range provides 19 taste combinations for cats, whilst dogs can enjoy 15 different combinations. Practice staff can register for the webinars for free by visiting: www.royalcanin.co.uk/renalwebinars.
