Surat based diamond unit gifts 491 cars, 200 houses to employees as Diwali bonus

Surat based firm Hari Krishna Exports has gifted the employees 491 Fiat Punto cars, 200 two-bedroom houses and jewellery ahead of Diwali. The incentives are valued at Rs. 50 crore.

This is part of company’s rewards for loyalty programme for employees who have shown high degree of performance in the past five years according to prominent Gujarati diamond businessman Savji Dholakia, chairman and managing director of Hari Krishna Exports.

Established in 1991, the diamond firm has an annual turnover of Rs 5,000 crore and a workforce of about 6,000. It has presence overseas as well, in Belgium, Hong Kong and England.

The employees who did not own a house were given the first preference for house. Those who owned a house were eligible for a car while the employees who had both a house and a car were given jewellery, he said.

Fiat views the order as the largest single delivery made by a car company in India, based on industry sources. Certainly the fleet of 455 Fiat Punto Evos is the biggest number of cars gifted as Diwali bonus by any company.

-He said he wishes five things to happen this year; (1) people stay away from bursting crackers to make city pollution free, (2) compulsory helmet, cleanliness, (3) Every week a team of 100 will clean some area of Surat. This drive will cover 5200 employees of company and continue for 52 weeks.
-Savjibhai said diamond industry has given so much to him, now he is giving back.
-Savjibhai has also organized lunch for 5,000 employees.
-Savjibhai asked employees to show their car to their parents, and gift jewelery to mother and wife.
-Savjibhai says he does social business. He says this concept was conveyed to him by his brother’s son who completed his education in America.
-Savjibhai says his workers are not workers but share holders who get share in profit.
-Savjibhai says his company has workers from 361 villages across 21 states.
-He says if workers in other companies would work like his workers, they too would get benefits from their bosses.
-He says he gave three Maruti cars to his staff 18 years ago when turnover was not above Rs. 1 crore.

-Harekrushna Export is number two diamond company in India in terms of highest income tax payment. Company has paid Rs. 10 crore TDS. Company has total 9,000 employees in Surat, Mumbai and abroad. In year 2013-14 company’s turnover was Rs. 5,000 crore which is likely to go up to Rs. 6,000 crore this year. Company’s every employee’s monthly income is between Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 3.40 lakh.
