Schoolboy dies as wall collapses near Tenkasi

MADURAI: A 14-year-old boy was killed when a wall collapsed due to heavy rain in a village near Tenkasi in Tirunelvlei district on Monday evening.
The victim was identified as Manikandan, son of Mariappan, a resident of Kattalai. He was a Class 9 student at a nearby school.
Manikandan and his friends were playing and bursting crackers when the wall of an unoccupied house fell on him.
Manikandan, who sustained severe injuries in the accident, was rushed to Tenkasi government hospital. However, the boy succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital. Doctors at the hospital declared him was brought dead.
The body was kept at the hospital for postmortem. The Tenkasi police registered a case and further investigations were on.
