Quaid-e-Azam Trophy: Malik, Zohaib bowl ZTBL to massive victory

Duo grab four wickets each to help team down Lions by an innings

KARACHI: Brilliant bowling spells by former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik and Zohaib Khan guided ZTBL towards victory over Lahore Lions by an inning and 25 runs on the third day of the second round of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Gold at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

Both Malik and Zohaib finished with 4-41 to send Lions packing at 180 in 59.3 overs. Arsalan Bajwa was the top scorer for the losing side with 36 runs.

Earlier, ZTBL had resumed their first innings on 335-6 and managed to accumulate 431 in 108.2 overs.

In another match, Wapda’s Waqas Mehmood and Ali Bhutta took four wickets each, giving away 33 and 23 runs respectively to help their team thrash Peshawar Panthers by an innings and 99 runs.

Panthers started their innings on 64-8, but managed only six runs in seven balls before their last wicket fell and failed to reach 278 in two innings.

Fawad propels NBP to 444 runs

Fawad Alam’s double century, 201 off 227, balls helped NBP post a strong total of 444 in 110.1 overs after they began their first innings on 306-5 on day three against Rawalpindi Rams.

By the end of play, Rams had reached 147-4 in 49 overs in their second innings with Shoaib Nasir batting at 78.

The Diamond Ground at Islamabad witnessed a thrilling match between Islamabad Leopards and UBL as the hosts won by one wicket on the third day.

Islamabad resumed their second innings on 3-1 and achieved the required 173 runs courtesy Imad Wasim’s 75 off 107 balls, while Junaid Ilyas bagged five scalps for UBL.

In another match, Karachi Dolphins’ Shahzaib Khan took six wickets to restrict SNGPL to 203 runs on the second round’s penultimate day.

SNGPL resumed their first innings on 29-0 and managed to muster 203 in 82.1 overs. Dolphins, who had scored 205 in their first innings, managed to post 41-0 in 15 overs by the close of play.

Meanwhile, PQA set a 352-run target for Multan Tigers as they scored 253 runs in 64.3 overs in their second innings at the Multan Cricket Stadium.

PQA’s Khurram Manzoor scored 67 off 91 balls and Shahzaib Hasan 60 off 75 deliveries, while Muhammad Rameez took 5-102 for Tigers. The hosts resumed play at 240-8 and managed to add 15 more runs in 4.3 overs.

At stumps, Multan were batting on 14-2 and need 338 runs to win on the final day.
