The perilous, mysterious sports tourism of Alex Rodriguez

With his season-long MLB suspension set to expire at the conclusion of the World Series, we knew Yankees slugger/pariah Alex Rodriguez would have to re-enter the public eye and be re-socialized into the major sports matrix.

We just didn’t know it would involve Tony Romo and the Arkansas Razorbacks.

A-Rod’s been popping up this autumn at an odd selection of stadiums, including a football doubleheader this weekend in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Arlington, Texas.

His gate-crashing at Sunday’s Cowboys-Giants NFC East showdown nearly produced a collision with Romo as Rodriguez blithely strolled out of the tunnel while the Dallas QB led the home team onto the field.

Just the day before, he was on hand as Alabama wrecked Texas A&M, 59-0, at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

It was the second straight appearance at a Crimson Tide game for the third baseman (first baseman?). Lower Q rating: Rodriguez or Nick Saban?

The college football pop-ups began in January, just days before Rodriguez’s Biogenesis ban was upheld by an arbitrator, when he attended the BCS Championship Game at the Rose Bowl.

Lest we think his sports-fan tastes run only to the gridiron, A-Rod threw in the odd Pac-12 baseball game in the spring.
