Former President Bill Clinton is the latest high-profile surrogate to lend his name the the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s (DCCC) often eyebrow-raising fundraising pitch email campaign, pleading for money from supporters in a missive Monday morning.

“I’m not going to sugarcoat this: Democrats are in a tough spot,” Mr. Clinton writes in the latest pitch. “The election is in just 15 days — and right now, we’re facing an avalanche of spending by outside groups. You name them, and they’re out there trying to tear down our Democratic campaigns. That’s why President Obama asked for your help. And that’s why I’m asking for your help today.”

In a previous pitch for the Democratic National Committee, Mr. Clinton wrote that Democratic candidates’ ideas won’t amount to “a hill of beans this November if their message gets drowned out by people like the Koch brothers.”

That precedes a pitch to “chip in $3 or more today to support Democrats.”

The new pitch from the 42nd president comes amid reports that the DCCC raised $16.7 million in September and started October with more than $34 million on hand for the stretch run, though political handicappers say the chances of Republicans losing the House this year are slim to none.
