Google's latest leadership change hints at Chrome-Android union: WSJ
NEW DELHI: Google has reportedly made some organizational changes following which, Hiroshi Lockheimer, its vice president of engineering for Android, will oversee the engineering team that leads the Chrome operating system.
Android is Google’s mobile operating system that powers smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices, while Chrome OS is its desktop OS that powers PCs and notebooks.
Chrome OS-powered notebooks are called Chromebooks.
The development was reported by The Wall Street Journal that cites two people familiar with the matter as the source of this information.
The Chrome team was led by Linus Upson, who has left that role, as per the report. Google refused to comment on the matter when WSJ reached out to the company for a confirmation.
It is not the first time that we’re hearing about the possibility of Google uniting its Chrome OS and Android operating systems.

Earlier this year, Pichai announced the company’s plans to bring Chome OS and Android closer through the App Runtime for Chrome (Beta) project, during the Google IO conference. It was also announced that Chrome OS would be able to display notifications from a synched Android phone. In September, Google made the first set of its Android apps available for Chrome OS. The apps include Duolingo, Evernote, Sight Words and Vine.
