Consolation Singles Results

SAN DIEGO, Calif.--University of Hawai'i women's tennis player Sarah Gealer was the only player in action on the fourth day of the USTA/ITA Southwest Regional in San Diego, Calif.

Gealer faced UC Irvine's Kat Facey in the Semifinal match on Sunday morning. Facey won the first set, 6-1 but Gealer bounced back to take the second set, 6-2 to even the match at a set apiece. Gealer then hung on to edge out Facey in the tie-breaker, 11-9 to advance to the consolation finals. Then in the finals, Gealer battled another Anteater from UCI, Sarah Gong. Gealer fell in the first set, 3-6 but rebounded in the second set to win 6-3 to send the match into a tie-breaker. But it was Gong who prevailed, holding off Gealer 10-5 for the consolation title.

The Rainbow Wahine will return home to host the Weinman Foundation Invitational from Nov. 7-9.
