Global Village: Kate favours a new paradise

Kate Moss

Anna Coogan

Kate Moss has often been photographed on the holiday island of Ibiza, yet this year she spread her wings a little further by taking to the beaches of Formentera.

Located about six kilometres south of Ibiza in the Mediterranean Sea, Formentera is often referred to as "Ibiza's little sister". Yet while Ibiza is known for its party atmosphere, Formentera is considered a peaceful and tranquil haven, and has been described as "the last Mediterranean paradise."

The Balearic island is 19 kilometres long and has a population of under 10,000 people. The result is white powdery beaches which are far from crowded. Indeed so sheltered are tourists on the beaches from other holidaymakers' spying eyes, that naked sunbathing is allowed on many of the sandy beaches.

The island was formerly reachable only by boat from Ibiza, but now there's a regular passenger service from the Spanish mainland.
