FNPF Holds Diwali Costumes Competition

Brothers Eshant Prasad, 6, and Shivendra Prasad, 9, won second and third prizes respectively in the male category of the Fiji National Provident Fund Diwali Fiesta Costume Competition at Downtown Boulevard in Suva last Saturday.

And their mother, Elline Prasad, was proud of her sons.

Eshant had worn a costume imitating Lord Krishna and Shivendra had worn a traditional wedding suit with both costumes costing $200.

The Fiesta was organised by the Fund’s Properties Department featuring children of the staff who took part in a Diwali costume competition.

Ms Prasad said she decided to include her to boys into the competition to give them some exposure with performing in public.

“Adults are mostly attending public functions or taking part in them and I thought this was an opportunity for my children to socialise and perform in public so as to boost their self-confidence and morale,” Ms Prasad said.

Meanwhile, event co-ordinator principal properties officer Sera Bola said the event was part of an initiative they held to attract people back to the Boulevard.

“What we see is that not a lot of people come to Boulevard anymore especially on weekends so we’ve planned some monthly events and because Diwali was around the corner we decided to host something with our Christmas carol choir competition coming up around the corner,” Ms Bola said.

She thanked all the parents who brought in their children to take part in the competition.
