Hundreds gathered Sunday in Whitman to remember and pay tribute to Maj. Michael Donahue, who was killed in Afghanistan last month.Donahue, a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne stationed at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, was a 1990 graduate of Whitman/Hanson High School.The Dropkick Murphys performed and closed out the ceremony as a surprise to the family, and played one of Donahue’s favorite songs, “Greenfields of France.”The tribute also included the Boston Police Gaelic Pipes and Drums, a presentation to the family from the Boston Red Sox, and remarks from friends and family and Maj. General L. Scott Rice, adjunct general.""Michael represented for all of us spirit, hope and a better future," Rice said. The Red Sox World Series trophy was on hand, and attendees were decked out in Red Sox attire in honor of Donahue’s favorite team.
