Tallest apartment tower a step closer

A $300-million plan to build Perth's tallest apartment building on the former Megamart site on the corner of Beaufort and Roe streets is gaining momentum.

TPG town planners has lodged a development application with the City of Perth for the project, which is intended to act as a gateway for the precinct.

The proposed staged development would comprise three residential towers collectively containing 804 apartments and 144 serviced apartments as well as commercial, retail and dining tenants.

It is understood one of the towers would be, at 46 storeys, Perth's tallest apartment building.

A plan for the Northbridge site was approved by Perth council last year but it is understood the design has changed.

The development is being designed by Fender Katsalidis, the east coast firm that designed Melbourne's Eureka Tower.
