Telangana Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural Water Supply K.T. Rama Rao has said the study of Gujarat water grid project has boosted their confidence to complete Telangana water grid in specified time by taking it up in a mission mode.
Speaking at the end of a two-day visit to Gujarat, Mr. Rao, who led a team of officials to study water grid and e-panchayat projects there, said the tour had helped them learn about the technology used in the projects and their management with the involvement of people. They would prepare a report comprising the information that would be suitable for duplication in Telangana.
The Minister complimented the role of women in running ‘paani samithis’ which manage supply of water at village level and said they would examine making women self help groups of Telangana part of water grid management. The similarity Telangana water grid would have with the one in Gujarat was utilisation of 60 per cent water from rivers and 40 per cent from other water resources, he noted.
As part of their second day’s visit in Gujarat, the Telangana Government team examined Navada pumping station from where 8 TMC ft of water was being pumped to 2,325 village and 38 cities/towns with the help of 12 hihg-capacity motors. They also enquired with local people about the quality and quantity of water being received by them.
The officials of Gujarat assured the visiting team of extending necessary technological support in taking up water grid project in Telangana. Engineer-in-Chief of RWS B. Surender Reddy, Balkonda legislator Prashanth Reddy and others accompanied Mr. Rama Rao in the two-day visit.
