Soccer fan collapses

KOLKATA: A 24-year-old Atletico de Kolkata fan collapsed while cheering for his team at the ISL match against Delhi Dynamos at Yuva Bharati Krirangan on Sunday evening.
Subhadip Sanyal, a patient of dilated cardiomyopathy, in being treated at AMRI Salt Lake. Doctors said he is still critical.
Subhadip had come from Bandel to watch the match with friends. The home crowd roared at the 48th minute as the Kolkata team scored the first goal.Suddenly, Subhadip collapsed. A Peerless Hospital ambulance parked in the stadium took him to the nearby AMRI Hospital.
He was put on ventilation at the ICCU. “Excitement can trigger cardiac arrest in a patient of dilated cardiomyopathy and this youth almost had a cardiac arrest. We cannot rule out hypoxic brain damage as he was not given oxygen on the way to hospital. He will be on ventilation until we conduct tests to ensure that there is no brain damage,” said Dr Arindam Sarangi, cardiac care specialist.
