VADODARA: Officials are in the eye of a storm as material meant for beneficiaries of state government's flagship Garib Kalyan Mela scheme was found undistributed in Dabhoi in Vadodara. The kits include those that couldn't be distributed at a recent event and also from earlier ones.
The material including bicycles and kits for self-employment were found at different government establishments in the town.
Dabhoi BJP MLA Balkrishna Patel raised the issue with the district administration. Patel said that around 450 bicycles and 200 kits were found at seven different places. He added that while most material was for the Garib Kalyan Mela on October 14, some bicycles were older. "Our workers spotted these and informed us," he said.
In August, a similar incident had come to light at Godhra where kits were found undistributed in the boys' observation home. The kits were spotted by minister of state for roads and buildings Jaydrathsnh Parmar who had gone there. Panchmahal social welfare officer L M Patel said the kits had been distributed after the episode.
Vadodara collector Vinod Rao
said that a majority of the material was pertaining to the October 14 event and only some cycles seemed older. "I have asked a deputy collector to make a report. We will be sending it to the state government for further action. The action will have to be taken by the social welfare and justice department which is not under us," he said.
