Obituary: Former federal secretary Riaz Sipra dies

Sipra played a vital role in organising OIC conference during former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's tenure

Apart from his term as a federal secretary, Sipra also served as Sindh additional inspector general from 1985 to 1986 and as additional interior secretary from 1990 to 1993. He also played a vital role in organising the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) conference during the tenure of former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.


Sipra leaves behind a son and two daughters. His funeral prayers will be held in Islamabad on Sunday (today).

Former inspector general of the Islamabad Police Kaleem Imam told The Express Tribune that Sipra was great loss of the country.

Imam, who was a mid-career officer when Sipra retired, remembered
the late police officer as “upright and a man of honesty and integrity. People like Sipra will always be remembered.”

What was Sipra's contibution to the people and the state which paid him handsomely throughout his life.
