#MahaPolls2014: BJP emerges as single largest party, NCP offers support to put Shiv Sena in a fix

The results of the Maharashtra assembly elections held on October 15 were declared today. The BJP has won 122 seats, the Shiv Sena 63 seats, Congress 42 seats, NCP 41 seats and MNS just 1 seat. The MIM has won 3 seats, marking a surprising entry into Maharashtra politics. The elections in the state were being seen as the first major test of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's popularity after the Lok Sabha polls.BJP had fielded 280, Congress 287, NCP 278, Shiv Sena 282, BSP 260, MNS 219 CPI 34 and CPM had fielded 19 candidates. Of the 288 constituencies, including 36 constituencies in Mumbai, 234 were General, 29 reserved for Scheduled Castes and 25 for Scheduled Tribes. Read more

* Latest voting trends:  21.6% in Mumbai, 26 % in Mumbai Suburban, 32% in Kolhapur, 36% in Nanded, 35% in Satara, 28% in Sindhudurg, 38% in Sangli,27% in Washim, 35% in Osmanabad,33% in Bhandara, 32% in Aurangabad, 33% in Pune, 37% in Latur, 24 % in Akola, 32.70% in Beed, 28 % in Amravati

* Voting till 11: 13.60% voting in Mumbai, 34% in Gadchiroli, 17.23% in Beed, 18% in Satara, 15% in Dhule, 21% in Nanded, 22% in Latur, 17% in Amravati, 22% in Sangli, 21% in Aurangabad and 17% in     Yavatmal so far.

Addressing the rally in Ahmednagar, Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray slammed BJP saying, "The BJP which grew in the state because of Hindu Hriday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray, which gave speeches from the same stage stabbed Balasaheb in the back. The alliance was established by Balasaheb, Atal Bihari Vaajpayi, LK Advani, Pramod Mahajan Gopinath Munde, but the few regional BJP leaders broke the 25-year-old alliance for their own benefit.

* If Gopinath Munde was still around, I wouldn't have been required to come to Maharashtra.

* I had full faith in him. He looked after the poor, those from backward communities and farmers. Maybe God wanted him more than I did.

* Have to ensure Maharashtra does better than Gujarat.

* These people (NCP) aren't "rashtravadi" (nationalists), they are "Bhrashtacharvadi" (corrupt)

* I have come here to urge you to ensure BJP's victory.

* The country needs to be cleaned. When you leave this place, you will not leave a single piece of paper or bottle of water. We have to take responsibility.

* If we just put an end to corruption in Maharashtra, Maharashtra's dreams will be fulfilled. I'm here to assure you I will walk with you every step of the way. Let's vote in large numbers  on the 15th (October). Let's think of Munde when we are voting. Let's choose the lotus.
