Hawker Gains Win For HU Women At Augsburg Pentathlon

Hamline had a very good day in the first pool outing of the 2014-15 season. The men defeated Macalester, 434-137 and Hannah Hawker picked up where she left off last year as the women polled 999 points in the four team field at the annual Augsburg Pentathlon held at St. Catherine pool, October 18.

The men dominated all five of their events. Hodd Gorman, a freshman, won three events and Parker Johnson  ?(pictured) and Ethan Ross won one each for the Pipers. 

Ross got the day off to a solid start winning the 100 Butterfly in 55:.51 seconds, two ahead of teammate Colton Plumber.  In what would be the trend for the day, HU took six of the top seven spot in this event. Johnson followed with a win in the 100 Backstroke. Gormanj was a close second with Plumber and Joe Campbell close behind. 

Gorman started his streak with a win in the 100 IM as HU took seven of the top eight positions.  He followed that up with a close win in the 100 Breaststroke, edging out teammate Jerry Daniels by less than a second. He wrapped up the day with a win in the 100 Free. 

Hawker (pictured) was in excellent form in the 100 Backstroke, winning in a time of 1:05.81. She also was sixth int he 100 Freestyle, missing the top five by .08.  Although her win was the lone HU triumph of the day but there were several other notable performances. Newcomer Kaitlyn Allee took third place in the 100 Breaststroke, finishing less than a second out of first place. She was also 10th in the 100 IM and 12th in the Backstroke. Jennie Dwyer was seventh in the Backstroke, ninth in the Free and 11th in the IM.
