FIR filed in train suicide case

38 people, who were mentioned in 11-page suicide note, have been named in the report.

Mathura police have registered a case of abetment to suicide under Section 306 IPC in the Sankalp Anand case, after his father lodged a complaint on Saturday.

Police said that a total of 38 people — who were mentioned in Anand’s 11-page suicide note — have been named in the FIR.

On October 15, Anand — a lecturer at the Lok Nayak Jayaprakash National Institute for Criminology and Forensic Science — and his wife Nandini committed suicide by lying down in front of the Delhi Agra Intercity train at Kosi Kalan, Mathura.

Their daughter, Riddhima (9), was also with them at the time but escaped with injuries.

Manzil Saini, SSP (Mathura), confirmed that Anand’s father, renowned lyricist Santosh Anand, filed the complaint.

In the letter co-signed by his wife, Anand had accused over 20 people of harassment.

He also alleged that three seniors officers had indulged in financial discrepancies in a construction contract worth Rs 250 crore, as well as “a fake recruitment racket”.

Anand has also accused over 10 others of harassing him for money that he collected for the institute.

Shagun Gautam, Superintendent of Police (Rural), Mathura, said, “His father asked us to file the FIR against all the 38 individuals named in the note. We are getting in touch with all of them. Right now, we only have their names. We are getting more details about who these people are and what their role in the alleged crime was.”

Gautam also said that arrests will take place once the contents of the letter have been verified.

The institute has also been asked to a send a report to the the Ministry of Home Affairs on the contents of the note.

Sources at the institute confirmed that they had contacted police in order to obtain a copy.

In his suicide note, co-signed by his wife, Anand accused three senior officers, at the institute where he worked, of being involved in a corruption case worth Rs 250 crore.  He also claimed that they were running a fake job racket.

He also accused 20 other people of harassing him for money. Based on a complaint by Anand’s father, Mathura police filed a case of abetment of suicide against 38 people named in the note.
