Daughter killer gets life term
UDAIPUR: The district and sessions court at Rajsamand on Saturday sentenced a man to life term in an honour killing case. The man had brutally beheaded his 20-year-old daughter with a sword in Dungerji ka Guda village at Charbhuja in the district on June 17, 2012. Far from feeling guilty for the crime he had committed, the convict screamed and abused people and media persons waiting outside the court, as he was taken to the central jail by the police.
The 55-year-old convict, Ogad Singh Solanki, was spotted roaming in the village holding a blood stained sword and a severed head by the hair. He later walked into the Gomati police station. Solanki was reportedly outraged over his daughter's alleged relationships with several men.
In his statement to the police, Solanki said his daughter Manju had physical relations with several men in the village. He had asked her to mend her ways several times in the past but she did not pay any heed. Out of rage, he chopped off her head with a sword. The body was found at his house. During the trial, the public prosecutor produced 18 witnesses most of whom turned hostile.
But circumstantial evidences, blood soaked clothes of both the father and the victim and the DNA reports established that murder was committed by Solanki. After hearing the arguments and examining the evidences, the session judge B S Kumawat held the accused guilty of murder and reserved the judgment for a day. The court pronounced life imprisonment for the convict under section 302 of the IPC on Saturday.
The case had been in limelight then with various women rights organizations condemning the murder and held demonstrations in the village. The State Human Rights Commission too had visited the village to make a detailed report in the case; however, many people had even sympathized with the father since they believed that no father could kill his own child unless the latter has caused him deep grief.
