BATHINDA: Waiting for action against Canal Colony station house officer for over a week for allegedly misbehaving with their leader Mohan Lal Jhumba, Congress has adopted a tough posture. The party has decided taking to streets if the cop is not transferred from the police station.
Two sitting and three former MLAs, apart from two office-bearers of Bathinda unit of the Congress, joined hands on Saturday and called on the senior superintendent of police to apprise him about the alleged misbehaviour of SHO Gurpreet Singh with Jhumba.

On Saturday, Gidderbahda MLA Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Bhucho MLA Ajaib Singh Bhatti and former MLAs Harminder Singh Jassi, Makhan Singh and Gurpreet Singh Kangar met Jhumba at the Bathinda Civil Hospital. On October 15, Jhumba, the district congress committee (urban) chief, had started a fast unto death to protest against no action by police against SHO Gurpreet. While sitting on fast his health deteriorated and he refused any medical assistance, following which police forcibly took him to the hospital.
Congress leaders also held a meeting with the party workers and warned the police that they would not take things lying down. They even demanded that the district police should take stern action against SHO or Congress workers would begin widespread protests in the town.
"It seems police are playing into the hands of the Akalis, but we will never tolerate misbehaviour with any of party our leaders and workers. We have decided to fight against highhandedness of the police," said MLA Raja Warring.
When contacted, the Bathinda SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said, "The matter will be thoroughly investigated and suitable action will be taken after the probe."
