34-year-old Janmajay Kharwar stayed on rent in Amrapali apartment near HAL, across Faizabad road.
Director of Raj Hitech Green City private limited, Kharwar stayed on rent in flat number 501 of the building along with wife Nisha Bose alias Nameeta and a Bengali servant. More than 1,200 investors had put money into various plotting schemes floated by Kharwar and he had several crores of rupees in bank accounts. Kharwar had qualified exam for the post of deputy jailor but could not get character police clearance certificate.
Kharwar’s body was found hanging from ceiling fan. While all doors of his room were locked from inside, a window was partially open. Nameeta, owns Jana Entertainment, a production house in Kolkata’s Tollygunj and was also partner in Kharwar’s company.
Kharwar had been booked in more than half a dozen cases of fraud and cheating by Hazratganj and Bakshi Ka Talab police allegedly for duping investors to the tune of several crores of rupees.
"Prima facie it looks like a case of suicide due to financial debt pressure, but we are waiting for postmortem report to confirm it,” said Ajeet Singh Chauhan, SHO of Ghazipur police station.
Janmajay also owned Nivik construction and his wife managed the other firm in Kolkata. “It seems Kharwar tried to commit suicide a couple of months back too as we came across several deep cut marks on his wrist and ankle, claimed another police officer.
At the time of Janmajay’s death, his servant Rajeev Das was in the other room, while Nisha was in Kolkata from where she hadn’t returned since Durga puja. “The couple had a court marriage on February 14, and were running the real estate business jointly,” claimed Ajay Kharwar, his nephew who also worked as manager of the firm for a year.
Servant Rajeev Das said “around midnight, he appeared normal with no sign of depression, but after talking to didi (Nisha) on phone, he locked his room. At 11:30am, I saw him through the balcony window, hanging from the ceiling fan.”
Kharwar’s last contact was with his wife via text message, in which he said – ‘I hate myself’. The postmortem report was awaited. Frustrated over losing more than Rs 30 lakh after Kharwar’s death, an investor said “on Friday night, he promised to return all my money with interest but today, I got the news of his death.”
