Pee Dee Electric board member recognized [Richmond County Daily Journal, Rockingham, N.C.](Richmond County Daily Journal (Rockingham, NC) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Oct. 18--WADESBORO -- Winnie Bennett, a member of Pee Dee Electric's Board of Directors, has received the board leadership certificate from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. Bennett was recognized at the association's regional meeting earlier this month for her commitment to education and attainment of the certificate in front of more than 800 electric cooperative officials from Delaware, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Virginia and West Virginia. Today's electric utility environment imposes new demands on electric cooperative directors, particularly increased knowledge of changes in the electric utility business, new governance skills and a working knowledge of the cooperative principles. Electric co-ops in North Carolina have a commitment to work through NRECA to sharpen this body of knowledge for the benefit of their electric cooperative consumers-owners. The NRECA Credentialed Cooperative Director program requires attendance and demonstrated understanding of the basic competencies contained in five core courses: Director duties and liabilities, understanding the electric business, board roles and relationships, strategic planning and financial decision-making.
