Bettiah: A gruesome tale of vigilantism unfolded at Gora-Semra Nonia Toli in Lal Saraiya panchayat under Majhaulia police station in West Champaran on Friday night. A teenage boy was lynched by a mob from his neighbourhood. The boy was in love with his neighbour’s minor daughter.
Police have registered an FIR against six persons on the statement of the elder brother of the deceased. SHO Sunil Kumar said the accused, including the minor girl, were at large.
Deceased Deepak Kumar was allegedly in a relationship with the girl for several years. Villagers said the young lovers had eloped in 2012. They were recovered by the East Champaran police and were handed over to their respective parents after executing bonds. That, however, failed to end their relationship. A school dropout, the 18-year-old deceased used to work as a labourer while the girl is a class VIII student at the local Sitaram Uchch Vidyalaya.
On the fateful night, the boy was pounced upon by the mob when he stepped out of his house to answer the call of nature. The body was scarred with lathi blows and the deceased’s eyes were also found damaged, the SHO said.
