MADURAI: A petition has been filed in a court in Tirunelveli on behalf of fishermen’s associations seeking imposition of a Rs 100-crore fine on BJP leader Subramanian Swamy for his comments on the fishing boats seized by Sri Lankan authorities.
Speaking to reporters, AIADMK members Mariappan, Ramalingam, Tamil Desiya Peravai members Vengadachalapathy, Manimaran, Sengodi Ezhuchi Peravai Syed Ali and Hassan said Swamy had openly declared that the Sri Lankan navy seized the boats of the Indian fishermen as he advised.
Hence a case should be registered against him as his said advice to the Sri Lankan authorities affected the livelihood of the fishermen, they said.
In the petition filed before the judicial magistrate court I, they sought action against Swamy under Section 294b, 500, 124 A of the IPC. The plea would be taken up for hearing on October 24.
