The English legend, Jonny Wilkinson has said he retired last year because he has had enough of the training required to be a star player.
At 35 he has been a legend at fly half for England but since the 2003 World Cup he has been plagued by injuries. Over the past few years Wilkinson has had more injuries than playing time.
Considering he won both the European Cup and French Top 14 finals in his last year, it might have been the fitting end to a great career.
With all this being said did Wilkinson really retire because he had enough of training or does he have enough money now?
Looking at the way the northern hemisphere play their rugby, I find it hard to believe that he could be tired. Yes, he has had a very long career but so has guys like Johan Ackerman that played well into his late 30's.
Ackerman played a much more fast paced game than that of Wilkinson. The amount of money Wilkinson earned during his final two season could well have been the motivation for his retirement while still playing an amazing brand of rugby.
