Former Union Minister of State V. Narayanasamy on Friday demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the fake nativity certificate scam to bring the culprits to book.

In a statement, he alleged that government officials and a section of staff in the Chief Minister’s office were involved in the scam. He said that officials in connivance with middlemen had received lakhs of rupees as kickbacks to help students from Tamil Nadu get admission in private colleges under the government quota.

The Government was trying to hush up the scam and a probe by the Crime-Branch Criminal Investigation Department (CBCID) would enable the culprits to escape. Therefore, only a CBI probe would bring to light the scams and racket, he said.

Mr. Narayanasamy said that over 4,000 employees working in 18 Government owned Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) had not been paid salaries for the last several months. He said that no tangible solution had been found by the government forcing the employees to take to the streets.
