SAMBALPUR: A few know about the Odisha connect of Nobel peace prize owner and child rights crusader Kailash Satyarthi. His son has married a girl from Bargarh town.
Though Satyarthi has not visited the western Odisha town, his link with the district has cheered the people of the region. It was an inter-caste marriage, but it was solemnized with the consent of Satyarthi, his in-law family sources said.
The couple resides in New Delhi and visits Bargarh very often, especially during vacation. "We feel proud after Satyarthi's name was announced for the coveted prize. We will definitely invite him to Bargarh to accord him a grand reception," said senior scribe Surendra Hota of Bargarh.
Hota, who is also the chairman of Dhanu Yatra media committee, said he would make personal effort to invite Satyarthi during yearly open-air extravaganza scheduled from December 26 to January 6, 2015.
Bhuban Ribhu, son of Satyarthi, married Priyanka, daughter of Bargarh-based Anantram Barik, on December 30, 2007. Priyanka was working in Delhi-based NGO 'Global march against child labour' of which Satyarthi is the founder chairman. During that time, she came in contact with Bhuban.
Barik said Satyarthi is a person with a vision. "I am happy that I am related to a person, who has made every one in the country proud for his work," Barik added.
Bhuban married Priyanka in Delhi in presence of family members of both sides. Bhuban is a lawyer in Supreme Court and associated with 'Bachapan Bachao Andolan' of Satyarthi. Priyanka helps her husband in the campaign for betterment of underprivileged children.
