GURGAON: Taking note of the traffic volume on NH-8, the concessionaire, Millennium City Expressways Private Ltd (MCEPL), has decided to broaden the critical entry and exit points on the 27.7-km Delhi-Gurgaon expressway. The proposal for expansion has already been sent to the independent consultant of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for approval.
A senior official of the concessionaire said that the entry and exit points near Signature Tower, Udyog Vihar, Mahipalpur, Jharsa, IFFCO Chowk and Sector 31 are being considered for expansion work. "We have sent the drawings to the consultant with details of the land that will be needed for the expansion project. The work will start as soon as we receive approval from the NHAI," he said.
"The preliminary sketches of the project, which had earlier been submitted to the IC on July, underwent correction twice. The final drawings were submitted to the IC for approval on October 17," said S Raghuraman, CEO of MCEPL.
A senior NHAI official said, "We are yet to finalize the requirement of land that is to be acquired from HUDA for the project."
Raghuraman said a technical survey has revealed that the traffic volume has been increasing on the expressway at a consistent rate of 5-6 percent per annum. "So, the entry points and the exit points need to be re-worked to avoid traffic mess at these points in future," he said.
