Four cubs spotted in Sanjay Tiger Reserve

The tiger was badly injured in an attack from other big cats before it eventually settled and came in contact with a tigress.

A dispersing male tiger from Panna Tiger Reserve (PTR) that had barely missed retracing a lost corridor before it was rehabilitated in Sanjay Tiger Reserve (STR) is believed to have fathered four cubs in his new habitat.

Aged between 20 and 25 days, the four cubs were spotted Thursday, the first evidence of any birth in the sixth tiger reserve in Madhya Pradesh. Park authorities have cordoned off the area where the cubs were spotted and plan to ban tourists in the area for some time.

P212, a collared tiger, had left PTR on February 23 and was heading towards Bandhavgarh reserve. After avoiding potential conflicts with human beings, the tiger had stabilised in Rewa district. In April when it became clear that the tiger was not making any further progress it was relocated to STR only to encounter hostile reception.
