The Hanover School Division is part of a bus safety video that’s going viral online.

If your kids take the bus to school, this video is a must see.

A Steinbach radio DJ along with some bus mechanics, and a group of Grade 4 students from the Hanover School Division remixed a popular song to talk about an important issue.

“All About That Bass,” a song by Meghan Trainor, has been remixed to become all about that bus safety.

The video, posted Wednesday night, got more than 7,000 YouTube views in less than 48 hours.

Corny Rempel, the DJ behind the video sings “Ya, it’s pretty clear; it’ll get you to school, but let’s talk safety like we’re supposed to.”

"The idea is to get the kids laughing and having fun, and thinking bus safety, and the teachers in the schools will take it from there,” he said.

Elmdale School hopped on board with the idea. Ten Grade Four students got to be part of the video.

“It shows a lot of things that are not allowed on the bus, and it's done in a positive way, because we always like to phrase our rules in positive ways,” said Principal Garry Giesbrecht.

The video doesn’t just offer safety tips for students; it also tells drivers what they should be aware of when they see a bus on the road. Transportation Director for the Hanover School Division, Robert Warkentin, gives this advice for drivers,

"When there's a bus around, to keep your eyes open because generally there will be students close by,” he said.

For the kids in the video, it's all about fun.

"It’s not every day you get to goof around on the bus," said nine-year old Owen Reimer.

Ashlee Friesen got to push Corny Rempel in the video, but even she says she learned a valuable lesson. “Do not push anyone on the bus,” she said.

For Ayesha Badiola, being part of the video was an honour, “because we got to help other students learn about bus safety.”

And for all the kids involved, it was a once in a life time experience.

"I thought it was very cool to see myself in a video that's going on the internet,” said Griffin Plett.

The video comes ahead of bus safety week, which runs Oct. 20 through Oct. 24 across Manitoba.
