Minister’s call for help restore AU campus

People should join hands to bring Andhra University back to its shape, Minister for HRD Ganta Srinivasa Rao said after addressing a meeting of Principals, HoDs, Deans and other officials of the university on havoc Sunday’s Hudhud cyclone caused to the campus, here on Friday.

He took details of the damage from different departments and assured of taking up the matter with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu who is camping here, during a meeting with him.

Damage Rs.230 cr.

Vice-Chancellor G.S.N. Raju said the preliminary estimate of the damage is Rs. 230 crore and sought help. Rector E.A. Narayana and Registrar K. Rama Mohana Rao were also present. First priority would be to resume water and power supply since students would come back to the campus on October 23 after holidays declared after the cyclone. Each department was given Rs. 50,000 to take up important and immediate work.

Mr. Srinivasa Rao said that as an old student of the university he was pained to see the damage the university had suffered and would do his best for the institution.

Relief fund opened

Andhra University has opened a cyclone relief fund and Prof. Raju was the first contributor. He handed over a cheque for Rs. 20,000 to Prof. Rama Mohana Rao. The Registrar and Prof. Narayana also donated Rs. 20,000 and retired professor of law R. Venkata Rao and Dean (students’ affairs) P. Hariprakash Rs.10,000 each.

Donations can be remitted to the fund’s account number 34314585210 at the SBI, AU Campus branch (code 00772); and other from other banks through NEFT with IFSE code: SBIN 000072 and from foreign countries through SBININBB 372 or SBININBB123 to the same account number.
