Carl Froch will relinquish his IBF super-middleweight championship in order to chase his Las Vegas dream after ruling out a fight with James DeGale.

DeGale, 28, became the mandatory challenger for the IBF strap after he defeated the previously unbeaten Brandon Gonzales in four rounds in May.

But Froch has dismissed the possibility of a showdown with the Londoner, even if it means he will lose the belt he successfully defended against George Groves at Wembley in front of 80,000 people.

"DeGale doesn't make any financial or business sense for me, my promoter or the TV broadcasters," Froch told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"His promoter is almost begging me to take the fight but he is not a big enough name.

"He has not beaten anyone to justify being in the ring with me. He lost to George Groves. I flattened Groves and it would be even easier to flatten DeGale."

Froch has instead shifted his focus to his career dream of fighting in Las Vegas. The Nottingham-born fighter is in talks with Mexican Julio Cesar Chavez Jr over a showdown in what could be the final fight of his illustrious career.

"I'm happy to vacate the IBF belt," Froch said. "This is about me pursuing a dream of boxing in Vegas. The promoter of Chavez Jr has been in touch with my promoter and once that happens you are on the road to getting the fight made."

However, Froch added that should he be unable to secure a deal for a fight in Vegas, he could happily retire.

He said: "I've achieved above and beyond what I ever thought I would when I turned professional so I would retire with a smile on my face."
