Internet: Greece; E-commerce posted 25% rise in 2013 [ANSA]

(ANSA Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) (ANSAmed) - ATHENS, OCTOBER 17 - Electronic commerce turnover in Greece grew 25% last year compared with 2012, reaching 3.2 billion euros, as Kathimerini online reports citing a report on online trade in Southern Europe published on Thursday by E-commerce Europe. This is attributed to the proliferation of online offers and discounts in the crisis period. This rapid increase in Internet purchases renders the e-commerce sector one of the fastest-growing in Greek economy, with its contribution to the country's gross domestic product reaching up to 1.76%. The report argues that online purchases could become a growth tool for the local economy in the coming years, while its increase rate has exceeded both the average in Southern Europe (18.9%) and the average across the European Union (14.7%).
