A woman ragpicker died in an explosion at a garbage dump in the outskirts of Aurangabad city on Thursday morning. Police identified the deceased as Nandabai Kaduba Bhalerao, and suspected chemicals dumped by some companies in the industrial area might have caused the blast.
The police said Nandabai and her mother had gone to the garbage dump in the Industrial Estate area to collect rags in the morning when the blast occurred around 11.45 am. She died on the spot.
Senior police officers, along with Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) sleuths, rushed to the spot for investigation. Samples collected from the site have been sent for forensic tests.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Arvind Chavriya said the lab report would help ascertain the cause of the explosion.
