BHUBANESWAR: Tension ran high at a private nursing home in Kharavela Nagar here on Thursday after relatives of a patient, who died early in the morning, ransacked the health facility.
They alleged that Tapan Nayak of a slum at Unit-III died of medical negligence. Nayak was admitted to the hospital on October 12 after he complained of severe stomach pain.
"He was operated upon for appendicitis. Then he was diagnosed with dengue. When his condition worsened, he was shifted to another private hospital at Chandrasekharpur late on Wednesday. He died on Thursday morning," said a police officer.
The nursing home staff denied the charges. "The patient died in another hospital. There was no negligence on our part," said a doctor.
