Independent.ie Newsdesk

Local Sports Partnerships (LSP) are an Irish Sports Council initiative and are charged with getting more people more active more often.

Connacht Rugby links with statutory and voluntary bodies in each of the counties to help increase participation in sport. This in achieved in a number of ways including the provision of information, education and programmes at a local level.

All clubs are encouraged to contact their LSP and ensure that they have up-to-date contact details. These details help to inform clubs about upcoming courses, events and possible funding opportunities. They also enable Connacht Rugby to inform the public about clubs in their area.

Your LSP provides training on a number of different aspects of sport, including child protection, club officer training, social media, strength and condition, SAQ.

Some initiatives that your LSP is involved with include Goal to Work in Mayo, where people who are unemployed receive training in business and coaching, including rugby that enables them to deliver sports programmes.

Sligo has Youth Sport West, funded under the European Union's Special Support Programme for Peace and Reconciliation, which delivers activity programmes to schools through many sports, including rugby.

Sports Personality of the Year by Roscommon LSP recognises the work of volunteers to sport, Leitrim has a similar programme that includes future sports stars.

Galway's new initiative FIT TOWNs gives clubs the opportunity increase their profile in the community and get more involved in your sport.

The ISC and LSPs have many programmes you as a rugby club can link into including Men On the Move aimed at men over 35 years.

LSPs are always open to working with groups/club to promote participation. Contact details for your LSP can be found at www.irishsportscouncil.ie or find us on Facebook. Also see www.getirelandactive.ie for opportunities to promote your activities.
