COIMBATORE: V Veeran alias Veerasamy, the accused in Pollachi twin rape case told the district Mahila court that he confessed to the crime due to police torture. Veerasamy told judge M P Subramanian on Thursday that he was innocent and he did not rape the two minor girls. The judge asked him why he had not claimed his innocence when he was presented before the judicial magistrate at the time of his arrest in June.
The next hearing has been scheduled on October 29. The verdict is expected to be delivered in the second week of November.
On Thursday, the twin rape case came up for hearing before the Mahila court judge Subramanian. Rape case accused, Veerasamy, 23, was produced before the court. The judge asked Veerasamy why the prosecution witnesses stated in court that he was the accused even though he claims to be innocent. The accused took a firm stand that he was innocent. He had confessed to the crime under duress. When the judge asked him why he had failed to inform the judical magistrate that he was innocent during the time of his arrest, Veerasamy did not respond.
The judge asked the defense counsel if they had any witnesses for cross-examination. Since there were no witnesses to be produced, the hearing was postponed to October 29.
Special public prosecutor R Sarojini had examined 23 prosecution witnesses including the two minor rape survivors. The prosecution side examination was completed. The judgment in the case is expected to be delivered in the second week of November.
On the night of June 11, Veerasamy had entered the campus of TELC Children's Home, kidnapped two minor girls and raped them repeatedly. Pollachi all women police arrested Veerasamy and he was lodged at Coimbatore central prison.
The police filed a charge sheet on July 30 and the case came up for trail immediately.
