Restaurant Review: Café Treat
Café Treat is the all-day dining and 24hour coffee shop of the Pride Hotel
Decor
Café Treat is one of the most spacious 24-hour coffee shops in Ahmedabad. The long dining room is flanked by the pool on one side and an open courtyard on the other. Columns along the wall and screens create the feeling of different areas within the restaurant for those who want more privacy.
A special feature of the restaurant is the station between the vegetarian and non-vegetarian buffet counters where specials of the day’s buffet menu are made live in full view of the guest.
Food
Mince mutton kebabs are Café Treat’s forte. The Lucknowi Gosht Galouti Kebab is one of its heroes, good-sized and truly melt-in-the-mouth. Gosht Kakori is another star of this restaurant’s menu with its delicately spiced mince mutton. The vegetarian take on the shami kebab, Paneer ke Naram Shami Kebab is made with whole spices and recommended for those who are open to a more pungent taste than the traditional paneer starters you get in most restaurants. Aloo Benazeer is another popular starter.

For the mains, Café Treat is good for uncomplicated western dishes like the classic Chicken Pepper Steak, Steak Farmhouse (paneer stuffed with spinach and mushrooms) and Cottage Cheese Medallions. A substantial one dish meal is the Moroccan Lamb Zaferrano, a chef’s special rather than anything authentically Moroccan, which primarily consists of meat cooked with herbs and veggies, and served with a sizable portion of risotto-like rice. They also have a version of the traditional British potato crusted meat pie called Shepherd’s Pie, baked with cheese. If you prefer North Indian food go for the usual items like Keema Matar, Rara Gosht, Dum Aloo Banarsi and Dal Pride Khas. They also offer pretty good dum biryanis with mutton, chicken or vegetables. The rice dishes on their 24-hour selection are also reasonably good. Their all-day menu also includes a variety of pizzas, which are not bad and they have a good range of fillings you can choose from – this is one of the few hotel coffee shops where bacon, ham and sausage pizza are on the menu.
The Gulab Jamun, Malai Rabdi and other Indian sweets are fairly good here, and they also do an acceptable Tiramisu.
Plus and minus
Café Treat is a good place for a substantial Indian and western meal, and also has a fair number of items available round the clock. However, not all their international food is good.
