Visakhapatnam still groping in dark

Efforts on to restore power in 80% households by Saturday

Visakhapatnam: Energy secretary Ajay Jain said on Thursday that they were striving hard to restore power to 80 per cent of households in Vizag by Saturday evening.

During an interaction with the media, he said that they had engaged around 10,000 skilled officers and workers for reinstallation activities.

He added that power supply restoration works had also started in agency areas of the district.

The department restored power to Gangavaram Port, 4 220-KV substations, 12 132-KV substations, and also areas in Pendurthy, Anakapalli, Tarluvada, Araku and other places by Thursday morning. Power from Odisha will be provided to Patapatnam and Parvathipuram in Vizianagaram districts, Mr Jain said.

He also said it would take some more time for charging power to Vizianagaram, Bobbili, Gajapathinagaram, S Kota, and Nellimerla areas that were severely hit by Cyclone Hudhud.

Paderu, Narsipatnam, Chodavaram and Anakapalli areas would be supplied with full-fledged power in the coming four days. They were also working on providing power to agriculture areas in the coming 15 days.

Power in all sectors would be restored in a phased manner said Mr Jain, adding that the staff were installing around 2,000 poles per day. He said that they would be deploying more staff from Telangana State, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
