Four chain-snatching incidents in an hour jolt city police

October 17, 2014 01:17 am | Updated November 16, 2021 11:24 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Two motorcycle-borne persons struck four times within an hour in the S.R. Nagar police station area, snatching away gold chains from women on Thursday.

The four episodes jolted city police who had claimed three days ago that they had brought down chain-snatchings by nearly half compared to the previous year. The offenders, riding a black bike, first targeted a woman walking on road near Yousufguda crossroads.

The duo took away the gold chain of another woman on Dharam Karam Road a few minutes later. The snatching spree continued as the offenders pulled away chain worn by a woman at BK Guda. Before any of them could reach the local police station, the duo targeted their fourth victim at ESI hospital.

They said three victims had lodged complaints at the local police station, while the fou-rth was yet to approach them.

“Had the first victim dialled 100 and complained about the incident immediately, the remaining could have been checked by fanning out policemen onto the roads,” said the local police.

The Cyber Crime wing of the Cyberabad police on Thursday arrested a former soldier, who is now a Special Police Officer with the Hyderabad police, Arun Kumar Tyagi (38), for allegedly making abusive phone calls and sending text messages to a member of Child Welfare Committee (CWC) of Ranga Reddy district.

Tyagi’s father had recently approached the CWC alleging that he was subjecting both his children to physical and mental torture. Based on his complaint, the CWC handed over custody of the two children to Tyagi’s father. Frustrated by the order, the SPO began making abusive phone calls and sending text messages to a member of the CWC.
