Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited, the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant on Thursday declared that it would ensure normal production within 15 days.
Heaving a sigh of relief after AP Transco restored power supply to re-start the captive power plant of VSP, RINL Chairman-cum-Managing Director P. Madhusudan said they would follow all safety pre-cautions by involving experts and retired officials of RINL, SAIL and other companies during the crucial revival phase.
CMD thanks NaiduAdmitting that Cyclone Hudhud came as a setback to RINL at a time when it was gearing up to face challenges and ramp up production from 6.3 million tonne expansion project, Mr. Madhusudan thanked Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for arranging power supply immediately after an appeal by him.
AP Transco supplied 50 MW from early hours with which one of the turbo generators was operated. “Slowly we will put to use all the generators and simultaneously charge the coke oven batteries and other facilities to attain full rated production,” he said. Two of the transmission towers which collapsed also need replacement immediately.
RINL shutdown the plant on Sunday after gusty winds lashed the coastal areas of North Andhra. Mr. Madhusudan told reporters that damage suffered by the plant to its physical infrastructure was ‘insignificant.’ He said they suffered a fixed cost loss of Rs.10 crore a day.
