Millar powers to win in Parramatta

Canberra’s Matt Millar has come from four-shots back on the final day to claim the 2014 Parramatta City Heartland Group Woodville Junior Pro-Am title.

Canberra’s Matt Millar has come from four-shots back on the final day to claim the 2014 Parramatta City Heartland Group Woodville Junior Pro-Am title.

Millar’s final round eight-under-par 64 was enough to overcome round one leader Jason King along with a quality field in the heart of Western Sydney.

Millar opened with a five-under-par 67 on Monday and was on track to an even better round two with five early birdies in his round on his way to a 13-under-par-total of (131).

It was enough to cruise to a three-shot-victory ahead of four players at ten-under-par (134).

West Australian Michael Foster proved once again why he will be a young star to watch in the upcoming summer of golf with a sensational final round of ten-under-par 62.

Joining Foster in second place was Joel Graham, Grant Thomas & Andrew Campbell.

Overnight leader Jason King couldn’t replicate his opening round of 63, struggling to finish with an even-par-round of 72 to finish in a tie for sixth place.

It is the second win in as many weeks on the Choice Hotels PGA Pro-Am Series for Millar who also claimed the Coca-Cola Shelly Beach Pro-Am earlier in the month.

"I am playing well at the moment and feeling pretty comfortable in all parts of my game which is nice" said Millar.

The Woodville Golf Club is a public facility managed by the Parramatta City Council and head PGA Professional Jason Kaye-Smith was once again delighted to see so many junior golfers take part in the event.

"It’s a great chance for these kids to play alongside the likes of Leigh McKechnie and Matt Millar and hopefully we will see the next Adam Scott come from events like this" said Kaye-Smith.

The unique event provides a playing opportunity for junior golfers from all over Sydney on both days of competition and is a major component of the Parramatta City Councils vision for promoting a healthy and active lifestyle among children.

The Muirfield Pro-Am tees off Wednesday and marks the beginning of a massive final month on the 2014 Order of Merit season.

Despite a poor result at Woodville, Edward Stedman maintains a healthy lead in the race for the NSW/ACT Order of Merit title over Millar.

The morning field begins with a 7:15am shotgun start followed by a 12:00pm start for the afternoon field.
