Who stole Fr Cedric Prakash's computer from his office? [DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India)]

(DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) "Why anybody would steal an old desktop which hardly has any resale value? But, if it is the desktop of human rights activist Father Cedric Prakash, it surely has great value for many. Interestingly, the thieves just stole one desktop installed at the Father's office and had sensitive data in its hard disk. However, police are looking into the matter like a general theft case.

Father is one of the faces who led the movement against then Gujarat CM Narendra Modi, alleging that 2002 post-Godhra riots were state-sponsored.

He said that he was in Mumbai on October 6 and 7 for some work. When he returned to the city on October 8, he found that his desktop was missing from his office and also noticed that the back door, adjacent to his office, was open. He called up the police on emergency number 100. Ghatlodiya police went to his office and carried out an investigation till 4:30 pm. After primary investigations of dog squad and forensic team, a First Information Report was filed.

However, Father has some logical queries that raise doubts about the theft not being an ordinary one. He said, "Nobody robs PCs (desktops) nowadays because the resale value is very limited. Thieves prefer smart phones, laptops as the resale value is much more. There are far bigger motives to this break in. They could have taken five other computers. Why they singled out mine?" He also stated that it was meticulously planned and executed apparently by the professionals.

He added that it could be an intimidation to show that human rights activists may face more serious problems in future. Police inspector of Ghatlodiya, AG Gohil said, "Father considers this a well-planned burglary. We are investigating the case and have interrogated several suspects. Police are also trying to recover the close circuit television camera footages from nearby spots. But, we have not got any clue yet."
