Battle for RCA reaches High Court
JAIPUR: The battle for Rajasthan Cricket Association reached the Rajasthan High Court's Jaipur Bench on Wednesday. The Lalit Modi faction filed a writ petition before it, saying 11 executive committee members were being stopped from entering their offices at Sawai Mansingh Stadium complex. All the 11 concerned members signed an oath to the effect.
The writ was filed against the state of Rajasthan, commissioner of police, SHO of Jyoti Nagar Police Station, Amin Pathan, Shakti Singh Rathore and Mohammed Iqbal.
The last three mentioned were appointed acting president, acting secretary and the acting treasurer by the rebel group, which had conducted an extraordinary general body meeting last Saturday to "remove" Lalit Modi as the president.
The Pathan group also geared up for the fight in the courts, forming a legal committee comprising Subhash Joshi, KK Sharma, Devaram, Rajkumar Mathur and Vivek Vyas. The last two mentioned are lawyers who have been active members of the RCA for a long time.
The Pathan group's legal committee was given powers to look into matters related to the RCA's functioning by an "executive committee meeting", convened at the RCA Academy .
"There has been an attempt to rob the RCA in the past five months," Pathan said. "Our legal committee will decide on what action to take against the persons behind it."
On the same day , Rajasthan-based cricketers inched closer to their return from wilderness when the High Court-appointed junior selection committee met here to pick the U-19 and U-16 squads for BCCI-organised tournaments.
The Modi group's main spokesperson Mehmood Abdi explained that the state of Rajasthan had been included in their writ petition as no action had been taken either by the chief secretary or the police commissioner following their meeting on Tuesday ."We had met both these officials yesterday (Tuesday) and had requested them to restore normalcy at the RCA," Abdi said.
