Karisma Kapoor and Anil Kumble launched ‘Diageo Road to Safety’ — a national campaign to make Indian roads safer.
Kapoor, who was the first to sign up to the pledge ‘I never drink and drive’, said, “I’m proud to support the cause. Valuable initiatives like this will go a long way in saving lives.” Also present were Karnataka Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, Abanti Sankaranarayanan (MD-Diageo India), Praveen Sood (Principal Secretary-Home Ministry) and Dr Rohit Baluja (President, IRTE), as a part of the panel discussion.
Anand Kripalu (MD, United Spirits, now a Diageo group company), said “Diageo and USL are partnering with government, NGOs and institutes to cause a paradigm shift in people’s approach to personal responsibility and road safety in India. Through the 30-city program, we will train police officers, drivers of commercial vehicles such as school buses and trucks and university students, offer free rides home, build awareness through television, radio, digital and social media and short film contests among a host of other activities.” With 373 responsible drinking projects across 53 countries, the brand is drawing upon a pool of readily available expertise and international practice in the area of road safety for this program.
