Shillong: Buoyed by
NorthEast United Football Club (NEUFC)’s win against Kerala Blasters in Guwahati, team co-owner John Abraham said his club would put up a strong fight in its next
Indian Super League (ISL) match against Atletico de Kolkata.
The football enthusiast, however, said the next match would be tough considering Atletico’s stellar performance against
Mumbai City FC in the inaugural match in Kolkata on Sunday.
“Kolkata is a tough side. However, we have young players. We will play with our heart,” Abraham told the media during his hour-long visit to the city on Tuesday.
NEUFC pulled off a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Kerala Blasters on Monday.
The actor added NEUFC is the only ISL team to have drawn its domestic players exclusively from the region. The northeast’s passion for football is unmatched, said Abraham, adding that his team co-owner, Shillong Lajong’s MD Larsing M Sawyan, also plays football.
The team owners revealed they plan to take the ISL to Shillong, Imphal and
Aizawl, besides other state capitals in the northeast, in the coming editions.
