BHANDARA: Average 63% voting was
registered in three
assembly constituencies of Bhandara, Tumsar and Sakoli as per provisional figures for the day as per district administration. Up to 5pm, the voting in Tumsar was 65.60%, Bhandara 60.18% and Sakoli 62.00%.
One of the main features of
polling in the district was that the Commission of India (ECI) had set up some model polling centres.
They had a
corporate office look, with a well furnished polling room. The polling officials welcomed voters with roses. It was a pleasant surprise for voters lucky enough to vote in these booths.
On the flip side, Mohagaon, Vitpur, Kamkasur and Susurdoh villages in the district boycotted polling as a mark of protest against government apathy towards their problems.
In Gondia district, average polling was 68.29%. Up to 5pm, the figures were Gondia 60.63%, Tiroda 67%, Amgaon 69% and Arjuni-Morgaon 68.20%. Amgaon and Morgao Arjuni assembly constituencies are Naxal affected, but Wednesday’s polling passed off peacefully. Naxalites did not create any obstruction in polling in villages located inside the forests, which they sometimes use as a refuge.
