On the Oilers:
"Edmonton has some high, high-skill guys that you have to be aware of ," coach Dave Tippett said. "So you always know your enemy when you're playing against them, but we want to play a certain way that we think we can be successful with."
Center Sam Gagner is facing his former team for the first time since he was traded in the summer.
"Once the puck drops, you stop becoming friends and it's all about winning the hockey game and you get competitive and it all goes out the window," Gagner said. "I don't think it'll be hard for me once the puck drops to just focus on playing hockey and helping the team get the two points."
Forward Kyle Chipchura and defenseman David Schlemko are making their season debuts.
"We want to get everybody involved early in the year," Tippett said. "Everybody wants to play."
-Center Martin Hanzal leads the team and is second in the NHL with a 74.4 faceoff win percentage.
-Captain Shane Doan has a team-high nine hits.
-Defenseman Keith Yandle had seven points in five games against the Oilers last season, while winger Mikkel Boedker had three goals and six points in five games.
